David Hodges sings a beautiful line in A Song for the Weary. Are you ready to turn our second guesses into second chances? Because we do just that. We second guess God. Our hope is not the thrill of hope that causes a weary world to rejoice like we hear in another beautiful hymn for the Weary (O Holy Night). I know this because “A Thrill of hope” is defined not just as a piercing desire, but biblically speaking a thrill of hope is defined as an expectation not merely anticipation. When we say those words”I hope so….” Do we truly expect what we hope for? How would this sense of both anticipation but also expectation change our prayers, our churches, our lives? Can you imagine what that would sound like? What it would look like? Jesus took on flesh with the express purpose of bringing this very kind of hope and expectation into our lives. Are you ready to turn our second guesses into second chances? If we speak of God and savior that is a resounding yes!
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of
the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. – Romans 15:13
