Celebrating Black History Month

When President Gerald Ford designated February as Black History month, he encouraged everyone to“seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” This includes the church, not just at large but the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Our denomination has the motto “unity not uniformity”. This fits in beautifully with Black history month. By celebrating our diversity, we are brought closer together. We get to hear more of the stories of the people and events that have made our denomination what it is today. So, throughout this month in blog and service we will look at some of the amazing Black Disciples of Christ and how they inspire us to be a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.
